Where is Puerto Rico? Do I need a passport to travel there?

What language do people speak in Puerto Rico?

Spanish and English are both official languages. Most people in tourist areas and major cities speak English, but knowing a few Spanish phrases is always appreciated!

Puerto Rico uses the U.S. dollar ($USD), so there’s no need to exchange money. Most businesses accept credit cards, but it’s good to have some cash for small vendors.

What time zone is Puerto Rico in?

Puerto Rico is in the Atlantic Standard Time (AST) zone and does not observe Daylight Saving Time. This means that during the winter, it’s the same as Eastern Time, and in the summer, it’s one hour ahead of Eastern Time.

It depends on where you stay. If you plan to explore beyond the wedding events, renting a car is helpful. Otherwise, Uber is available in San Juan and Isla Verde but may not be available in more remote areas.

Will my cell phone work in Puerto Rico?

Yes! Puerto Rico is part of the U.S., so your phone plan will work without roaming fees if you have a U.S. carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.).

Yes, tipping is expected just like in the U.S. 15-20% is standard. Some restaurants may include a service charge, so check your bill before adding a tip.

Can I use my credit card?

Yes! Credit and debit cards are widely accepted. However, some smaller vendors may only take cash, so having a little cash on hand is a good idea.

What should I pack?

Light & breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen (the sun is strong!), swimsuit (because, of course), sunglasses, and a light rain jacket (quick showers can happen).
